Warrington v Brymbo:

Warrington won the toss and asked Brymbo to bat:

This was an exciting game, played in an admirable spirit, with the balance swinging several ways between the teams before the final result was achieved.  Initially as Brymbo batted, the light was excellent but deteriorated in the last hour when Warrington batted, as the sun sank below the level of the trees and the pitch was covered in shadow.  Late in the game fielders also had difficulty in sighting the direction the ball was taking off the bat.

The game was decided in the last over, with eight runs needed.  It went to the last ball when Warrington scrambled a single to gain the winning run necessary to progress to the next phase.

Brymbo: 126 -7                       Warrington 127 -5 (tel. Con from Beverley Kirby).

Post-match email comments from Emma Lomax – Warrington Team Manager:

Here at Warrington we thoroughly enjoyed the season, with the exception of the result of the last match.  The lads were understandably disappointed but they did themselves proud and the match at various points could have gone either way.  Both C McElroy and M Regan performed well with the bat, with 36 and 25 respectively.  Northop Hall grasped these wickets at crucial points in the match.  M Regan performed equally well with the ball with figures of 3 for 20.  Warrington did not post enough runs on the board after losing the toss and were always going to struggle to defend a total of 112.

Well done and Congratulations to Northop Hall, they played an excellent match with a good spirit.”
